Week in Review – and new EHR Optimization survey – 8/28/15

NEW IMPACT ADVISORS SURVEY FINDS OPTIMIZATION IS A TOP PRIORITY… Impact Advisors has just published a report based on results from an online survey of more than 40 members of The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).  We found that respondents were clearly focused on optimization, as more than 70% agreed (36% strongly) that the top IT priority for their organization in the next 12 months is projects that help them realize more value from their EHR investment.  In fact, only 8% said they are not focused on optimization right now.  Almost three-quarters said they plan to seek optimization help from a services firm or their EHR vendor (in addition to leveraging internal project teams) over the next two years.  Remarkably, despite the significant investment the industry has made in enterprise clinical systems, 57% of respondents still said their EHR has not helped their organization realize clinician productivity and efficiency goals

Impact Advisors’ Thoughts The full white paper can be downloaded here on our website.  We think the results provide interesting insights into how a group of market leaders (i.e. CHIME members) are approaching optimization, while also underscoring the current reality that there is significantly more value that can still be realized from EHRs.

CVS EXPANDS TELEHEALTH OFFERINGS; SURVEY FINDS PATIENTS ARE HIGHLY SATISFIED WITH TELEHEALTH VISITS… CVS Health announced it will partner with three “direct-to-consumer telehealth providers” (American Well, Doctor on Demand, and Teladoc) to “explore how direct-to-consumer telehealth providers, retail pharmacy and retail clinic providers can collaborate to improve patient care.”  The announcement comes on the heels of a Journal of General Internal Medicine study that found “high satisfaction” among CVS MinuteClinic patients who participated in a telehealth visit.  In fact, one-third of study participants said they actually preferred telehealth to an in-person visit.

Impact Advisors’ Thoughts In our opinion, widespread adoption of telehealth solutions is only a matter of time.  It will be interesting to see how it happens though, and which use cases gain traction.  Will momentum initially build in the retail health sector?  If so, how will other stakeholders respond?
